What Dale Does
I was asked this question by one of my friends who wondered why I worked till 4 or 5 most days. So here's an answer - during the day, I teach - which involves a lot of planning which I'm slowly getting the hang of, we do cooking, music, PE, art, science and lots of other things, just not in the same way you would do them in a primary school classroom. My official title I guess is Centre C0-ordinator, which means I am responsible for the Preschool, for it's internal development of curriculum and systems etc, I also should be doing staff development with Srey Oun - we do a little - and I co-ordinate the preschool's activities with the schools and a few other bits and pieces like policy development etc. And that all takes up a fair bit of time when I'm doing it well.
Outside of school hours I leanr Khmer, going slowly but going wellish, hang with friends, who are all fast leaving the country for one reason or another, play the piano and guitar for church and pleasure, and try and relax. There isn't a lot of social activities to do in Phnom Penh so it's kinda make your own fun.
And that, in brief is what I do. Do I like it here? Strangely enough, yes.
